February is a beautiful time of the year to visit us here at Mirefoot cottages. Being surrounded by the countryside there is plenty of adventures to be had from the front door of your cottage, from local walks to the abundance of wildlife, you are spoilt for choice. But here are a few things to check out which are also nearby to us:
- Forty Farms Trail at Sizergh Barn Shop; Based on the book by Amy Bateman this lovely trail has displays for all of the featured farms as you follow the track through peaceful woodland and meadows. This is a great short walk for the family, with free parking too. And you can reward yourself in the onsite café or grab some local produce from the farm shop. If you are lucky you can watch the cows being milked from their viewing gallery too.
- For the adventurers looking to be inspired, book in for the Kendal Mountain Tour film night. Taking place on February 7th at The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal, be wowed by a selection of outdoor films and guest speakers- it may push you to conquer some Wainwrights during your stay here, or to brave a cold water dip (don’t worry there is always our hot tub if you don’t fancy the cold!).
- Spread your wings and head over to Beetham Nurseries for their Nestbox trail. This family activity is taking place during half term, and is a fun way of learning lots about how we can help encourage British birds to keep nesting here. Complete the trail and get yourself your own Nestbox kit to build. Afterwards you could pop into Beetham for a spot of lunch at The Wheatsheaf, or discover the magical fairy steps.

We look forward to seeing you soon. (Psst- get an extra £50 off a stay in Shippon Cottage during February 2024 by using code FEBRUARY50 when booking!)
