While the world was on shutdown, we have been hard at work improving Mirefoot and ensuring we have something new for returning guests. Here are some of the changes we have implemented over the last few weeks and we hope you enjoy them:
- Clearing of the lower field of farming and building debris in preparation for a wildflower meadow to be planted this autumn.
- 5 Bird boxes and 1 Owl nest located around the grounds to improve our Biodiversity- we already have a resident Woodpecker who has arrived and set up at Mirefoot Spa, watch out for him on the grass/trees outside the spa area, he is a beauty!
- Composting of organic waste is now available to all guest, so please fill those bins up!
- Apart from the Prosecco, all products in the Guest Welcome Packs are designed, made and produced within a 3-mile radius. We’ve curated local products that we are proud to support, including Handsome Brewery, Kendal Cordials, Claire’s Handmade, and Pure Lakes with more to follow.
- We now have a retail area in the entrance of the Spa where you can purchase some of our favourite locally-made products. We are proud to use Pure Lakes toiletries in our cottages, they are all natural, ethical, and local.
- We have begun our mission of planting of 30 trees within 3 years. New additions include a bee-friendly walnut tree and a mulberry tree that will hopefully produce fruit and nuts for guests in the years to come.
- We have Birdwatching guides, useful for the novice and seasoned bird-watcher to get spotting.
- We now have a powerful Telescope through which you can see the crater marks on the moon and the moons of Venus – a great activity for the family or a romantic evening.
- We are now part of the Green Tourism scheme and working hard to achieve the Gold standard to provide a holiday destination that has as low a carbon footprint as possible.
- We have introduced Mirefoot Memories books in all the cottages that will allow guests to leave tips, suggestions, and even flower pressings for future guests to read and enjoy and then they can leave the same…..pass the kindness on 😊
