Walking
Walk to the local Pub
Time: 120mins + (depends how long is spent in the pub)
Difficulty: Relatively flat, with some rocky ground and stiles to negotiate via the river, or low/moderate difficulty if heading up to Potter Tarn
Good to know: This route can be done via the river route and back, Potter Tarn and back or as a circular route, we suggest Potter Tarn on the way and River route on the way back. Staveley is a picturesque Cumbrian village filled with great:
- Pubs: The Eagle and Child
- Ice-cream shop: Kimi’s Gelato
- Coffee shop: Mr Duffins
- Bike shop: Wheelbase (largest in Britain)
- Bakery: More Bakery
All set along the River Gowan, great for relaxed walks with treat in hand.
Short Walk to Potter Tarn
Time: 60mins
Difficulty: Low/Moderate difficulty depending on fitness
Good to know: Great for morning or afternoon walk with the dog, or if you are looking to get out and enjoy the beauty of Mirefoot’s surrounding landscape.
For the more adventurous of you, you may want go off the map and find some local beer. At the end of the route where it turns left off the road to “walk through farm” back to Mirefoot, instead continue down the road about a mile to visit our local Handsome brewery , next to the bridge where you come to Mirefoot- you can sip a fresh pint and watch the River Kent flow by. Perfect!
Walk to Gurnal Dubs
Time: 120mins+
Difficulty: Moderate, steep hills and can be muddy/boggy under foot.
Good to know: Don’t let the difficulty or underfoot conditions put you off, the view from up by Gurnal Dubs is beautiful (the sunset picture on our Things to do page is up by Gurnal Dubs).
Beautiful views of the gorgeous Lake District and if you’re lucky you may have the whole place to yourself. On clear days you may be lucky enough to see low flying RAF fighter jets.
Walk to Handsome Brewery
Time: 60mins
Difficulty: Relatively flat, unstable ground along river
Good to know: This route has lovely views along the river and is rounded off with a selection of beautiful beers to be enjoyed by the River Kent.
