Gardens and grounds

The gardens at Mirefoot offers Cumbrian beauty and interest all year round. Accepted to open for the National Garden Scheme the gardens are for you to wonder around and find quiet space.

A large pond is home to wild ducks, frogs and newts, as well as water-lilies and gunnera. The arboretum contains unusual specimens of trees, rhododendrons and azaleas. Alongside the quantity of more common garden birds and bats, Birdwatchers will spot wheat-ears, green woodpeckers, long-tailed tits, and (more often heard than seen), barn owls and tawny owls. You can sit by the fountain of tranquillity opposite the Spa to fully immerse yourself in the experience at Mirefoot.

Up the hill Mirefoot extends to 150 acres of grounds where tree planting and conservation projects are underway. Our bluebell woods are 30-minute walk and in May are quite stunning.
