Sellafield Visitors Center
   

Sellafield is probably BNFL's most well known site, and is home to the Sellafield Visitors Centre.

The Visitors Centre presents a unique educational experiene and contains interesting and innovative exhibitions providing an insight into the world of BNFL and Sellafield.

Opening Times
Open every day of the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day
From March 25th the Centre will open daily 1000am - 1700pm


November to March 10.00am - 4.00pm (except Christmas Day)

Ample free parking for cars and coaches.

Directions
The Sellafield site is situated 11 miles south of the coastal town of Whitehaven in West Cumbria.

Driving
When travelling north along the M6, leave the motorway at J36 or J40. These are both approximately 60 miles from Sellafield. Please note the route from J36 is less direct and can be congested, particularly in the Summer months. Allow 1 hr 30 minutes to travel both routes.

From J36, take the A590 towards Barrow-in-Furness as far as Greenodd, then turn right onto the A5092.
Follow the A5092 as far as Grizebeck, then take the A595 for Workington and follow this road to Calder Bridge.
For the Sellafield Visitors Centre turn left at the traffic lights at Calder Bridge.

From J40, take the A66 for Keswick.
Continue along the A66 as far as the roundabout sign posted A595, turn left towards Whitehaven and then follow the signs towards Barrow-in-Furness which eventually lead to the signs for Sellafield.
For the Sellafield Visitors Centre, turn right at the roundabout sign posted for Sellafield.

The Visitors Centre is well signposted from local roads.

Rail
If travelling by rail on the Barrow/Carlisle line, leave the train at the Sellafield rail station.
Trains stop at this station on request only, passengers wishing to disembark from the train must inform the guard when they embark.
On leaving the station, turn left and go up the hill to reach the Main Gate.
The station is approximately 10 minutes from the Main Gate.
Trains are very infrequent over the weekend period.
The Sellafield Visitors Centre is approximately two miles from the station.
